Photiou quits Mercer for Barclays’ corporate benefits arm

Barclays Corporate & Employer Solutions (C&ES) has appointed former Mercer partner Katharine Photiou as the bank looks to grow its corporate consulting business.

Photiou joins as head of workplace savings, reporting to Richard Phelps, head of Barclays Corporate & Employer Solutions.
The appointment follows the recent announcement by Barclays C&ES of the launch of a Corporate Wealth Advisory team to complement its existing Employee Benefit Consulting team, which was launched last year.
The focus on the workplace follows the closure of Barclays Financial Planning over a year ago, when the bank stopped giving individual advice to customers, except high net worth individuals served by Barclays Wealth.
Photiou previously held a number of roles at Friends Provident before her two and three quarter year stint at Mercer where she was responsible for building its workplace savings solution.
Phelps says: “Katharine’s decision to join the team is a significant boost to our plans in the workplace savings arena and accelerates our ability to reach our goal of being a major provider in this space. We’re thrilled that someone of Katharine’s calibre and reputation has joined C&ES.”
